Top 5 dirtiest cities in America

 

A new study has ranked 152 cities across the US in terms of their overall cleanliness.

The study found that the five dirtiest cities in the US were all run by Democratic mayors. The dirtiest cities include Houston (Texas), followed by Newark (New Jersey), San Bernardino (California), Detroit (Michigan) and Jersey City (New Jersey).

The study was conducted by lawn care company LawnStarter. The company assessed each city using publicly available data on a number of factors such as air quality , emissions, litter, pests, housing quality, and residents' opinions. .

These factors are then aggregated into four categories including pollution, living conditions, infrastructure and people's satisfaction. The scores are then weighted and averaged for each city, producing the final ranking in the list of cities.

Houston, which comes in first place on the list, is also ranked third nationally for pollution, fourth for poor living conditions, 12th for infrastructure, and 34th for customer satisfaction. people. The city was also found to have the third highest per capita emissions of large industrial facilities and the largest cockroach problem, according to data from the US Census Bureau.

Meanwhile, the cleanest city in the overall ranking is Republican-run Virginia Beach, also ranked 149th for pollution, 112th for living conditions, 98th for infrastructure and 132th. on people's satisfaction.

The cleanest city in terms of pollution turned out to be Honolulu in the state of Hawaii. In contrast, the most polluted city was San Bernardino, California, which also had the lowest level of resident satisfaction. New York City scored the lowest in terms of living conditions, at the bottom of the table across from Lexington, Kentucky.

In January 2023, a study by WalletHub found that the cities with the highest homicide rates in the US were also mostly run by Democrats. Of the 45 cities ranked, the top five include Atlanta, Baltimore, Detroit, Las Vegas and Kansas City. Only one Republican-run city, Jacksonville, Florida, made the top 10.
